President Maithripala Sirisena pays respects to His Majesty the late King of Thailand
President Maithripala Sirisena visited Thailand to pay his respects to His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand at the Grand Palace in Bangkok today (30 October 2016). He was accompanied by Hon Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa, Minister of Justice and Buddhasasana. The President was received on arrival at Suvarnabhumi Airport by the Thai Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea’ngam.
The Lord Chamberlain of the Royal Household Bureau conducted the President to the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall where he laid a wreath in paying his respects to the late King. Subsequently, President Sirisena signed the Book of Condolence at the Grand Palace where he deeply appreciated the invaluable contribution of the late King in strengthening the relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand. He recalled the late King’s visionary guidance that has led Thailand to become a regional leader and respected member of the world community. He also noted that His Majesty the late King Bhumibol would be remembered for the decades of untiring, selfless service that uplifted the lives of the Thai people.
The Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu expressed deep appreciation of the government and people of Thailand for the magnanimous gesture of President Sirisena for undertaking this visit to personally pay respects to the late King.
