Commencement of work for the New Year 2020 at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok.

H.E. the Ambassador and staff of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok joined in a simple ceremony at the Chancery to mark the commencement of work for the New Year 2020.

The programme included hoisting of the national flag by H.E. the Ambassador (Mrs.) Samantha K. Jayasuriya, followed by the singing of the national anthem and observing two minutes silence to commemorate the war heroes and others who sacrificed their lives on behalf of the motherland. The staff of the Embassy took the Oath of Public Servants pledging to work, efficiently and productively while entrusting to implementation of public policies and goals throughout the year.

Recalling the New Year massage of H.E the President of Sri Lanka, to face the New Year with ‘utmost commitment to ensure prosperity, by merging skills and diverse identities with modernity’, as well as the New Year message of His Majesty the King of Thailand, that urged people to learn from their past mistakes and gear for self-improvement, Ambassador Jayasuriya in her brief remarks to the staff, invited all at the Embassy to think and work like a family, irrespective of the ranks and whether they are home-based or locally recruited Thai Nationals. To learn from past experience and determine to do better in the New Year should be our solemn pledge as we commence the work in the New Year, she said.

The event concluded with partaking of traditional Sri Lankan sweetmeats, milk rice as well as assortments jointly prepared by Sri Lankan and Thai staff.
